Discover Nature in the Heart of Houston

The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center is a 155-acre urban sanctuary located on the western edge of Memorial Park in Houston, Texas. Established in 1967, it was one of the first nature education facilities for children in Texas and continues to provide educational programs for over 10,000 children annually. The Arboretum offers a peaceful escape from city life, allowing visitors to connect with nature through its diverse habitats and educational programs.

A Brief History

Founded in 1967, the Arboretum is bordered by transit infrastructure and the Buffalo Bayou. Over time, the landscape had evolved into an overgrown woodland, overrun by invasive species. Today, the Arboretum is managed by the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center Board of Directors and staff under an agreement with the City of Houston Parks and Recreation Department.
